The SOS High School Mission trip is a reward for the hard work of the members of the various SOS chapters who logged the most hours of service time during the most recent school year.  SOS teams us with Steve Meyers, Youth Minister at Unity Church in Plum, and created a High Mission trip that consists of the top HS SOS members and the members of the High Youth Group at Unity Church.

Each summer, during the first week of August the High Mission trip travels to upstate New York, to the town Chaumont, NY. While staying in Chaumont, we will stay in a local church that has enough space for all our cots and bedding, and the church has a kitchen for the high school students to create various meals for the group throughout the week.  We work with an organization known as MINK that funded by local churches in upstate NY.  MINK provides us with the worksites and lumber supplies that we need as we build decks for needy souls living in modular trailers.  Many of these souls are handicapped in some capacity and need ramps built to the door of their trailer that is often 7 to 10 feet off the groud.  Typically, we can build 3 to 4 decks during the week we are in Chaumont.

This week is not all work, there is an afternoon at the state park where we swim, play volleyball, and cookout. We also stop at the Jello Museum (yes it exists) and make a stop at Niagra Falls and ride the Maid of the Mist.  These activities and so much more make this week a great reward for our top SOS members.
